Nature, Sustainability & Climate Learning

Preparing young people for a changing world

Today's children are growing up in a rapidly changing world.

Climate learning begins with relationship with one another, our communities and the more-than-human world - nurturing compassion and a shared sense of stewardship.

As educators, our role is not only to help children understand climate change, but to give them opportunities to explore it, question it and discover how their own actions can make a difference..

Why does this matter?

The Department for Education's Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy asks every education setting to appoint a Sustainability Lead and develop a Climate Action Plan.

Wild Trout Foundation helps schools bring those ambitions to life through meaningful outdoor learning that inspires curiosity, confidence and action.

How We Can Help

We can support your school through:

·        One-off or termly visits to our ancient woodland - with access to river and meadows

·        Climate and sustainability learning

·        Nurturing nature connection

·        Pupil voice and child-led sustainability action

Learning Through the Seasons

Children build a lasting connection with nature by returning to it again and again.

Our programmes are inspired by the Pathways to Nature Connectedness, developed by Professor Miles Richardson and colleagues. Research suggests children are more likely to care for nature when they have regular opportunities to notice, experience, enjoy and care for the natural world.

Each visit builds on the last, allowing children to experience the changing seasons while deepening both their understanding of the curriculum and their relationship with nature.

Is funding available?

Often, yes.

As a Community Interest Company, we're committed to making nature-based learning accessible. If funding is a barrier, we'll always explore grants, partnerships and other opportunities that may help.

The future doesn't just need children who understand climate change.

It needs young people who feel connected to nature, believe their actions matter and have the confidence to help shape a better future.
